On the way to the park, the guide will give you an excellent narrative of Miami and the Everglades.

I just returned from my Everglades tour and even tho it rained, I had a GREAT time (the rain made being in the Everglades that much more exciting)!!
I want to thank our tour guide (i forgot his name...sorry) for allowing us to wait out the down pour & enjoy ourselves!! Even through the rain, I was able to capture some excellent shots of the alligators in the water as we passed through!!
I went on this tour by myself, but will DEFINITELY be booking again when my fam & friends come back down to MIA with me.
